Kandjii Now Off the Hook

Local boxing administrator Ambrose Kandjii heaved a huge sigh of relief after the often controversial long-serving boxing official was given a slap on the wrist by a 3-member disciplinary committee chaired by the president of the African Zone Six Boxing Federation Victor Mohapi in the capital on Saturday. Dark clouds were hanging over the physical involvement of Kandjii on the LOC but the president of the Namibian Boxing Federation Kelly Nghixulifwa moved quickly and dragged his sidekick to Johannesburg for a successful temporary reprieve. Kandjii stood accused of having brought the game of boxing into disrepute by showing ungentlemanly behaviour towards his superiors during a Zone Six event in Gaborone last year, after he vehemently protested judges' calls which led to a walkout by the Namibian contingent. Boxing officials would have none of it and summarily summoned Kandjii to answer two charges of serious misconduct for withdrawing boxers from an organized event under the auspices of the African Zone Six Boxing Confederation and showing aggressive behaviour towards high-ranking boxing officials. Kandjii pleaded guilty to both charges and was handed a one-year suspended sentence on the first count before he was fined U$100 for the latter charge, payable with immediate effect. A clearly relieved Kandjii settled the fine and has now been given the green light to go about his business in the game of boxing unhindered.
