By Anna Ingwafa OSHAKATI The late Deputy Minister of Safety and Security, Gabes Shihepo, will be laid to rest on Saturday at Ohakweenyanga Cemetery near Ongwediva, family members announced. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday from 16h00 at Ongwediva Trade Fair grounds. President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Government ministers are expected to attend the memorial and funeral services. The burial is set for Saturday before noon. This is in accordance with Shihepo's wish according to one of his children. Before the interment on Saturday morning, the deceased's body will be taken for a church service at Okatana Catholic Church near Oshakati. The acting Governor of Oshana and Oshakati East Councillor, Lot Kuushomwa; Ongwediva Mayor, Erastus Uutoni; Oshana Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa; Uuvudhiya Councillor, Amutenya Ndahafa; Ompundja Councillor, Adolf Uunona and Ondangwa Councillor, Ismael Uugwanga conveyed their condolences at the late Shihepo's house on Tuesday. Shihepo or "Miitili", as he was affectionately known by villagers here, will be laid next to his wife, the late Justina Shihepo, who died in 2006 and his elder sister, Julia Nepembe, who died early this year. Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Abraham Iyambo, was expected at the late Shihepo's house in Ohakweenyanga in Ongwediva yesterday to help organise the funeral. Shihepo died at Ongwediva MediPark Private Hospital on Monday morning, where he was admitted last week while he was on an official trip to the north. He was 63. He is survived by four children - three daughters and a son - and three grandchildren. Shihepo was a member of the Swapo Central Committee.
