RUNDU - Swapo Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba has called on the two Kavango regions to ensure that by the end of November, all party structures are operational and ready for the party’s campaign trail for next year’s national elections. Mbumba, who met the regional leadership on Saturday afternoon at the party offices in Rundu, told party delegates that the party cannot afford to campaign for the elections without ensuring that all the party structures across the country are operational. “All structures from both regions must be operational. The regional executive committees, districts, branches must be operational. Now that the recommendations of the 4th Delimitation Commission resulted in the formation of 14 new constituencies nationwide, our structures must be organized,” he said. The two regions have a combined 14 constituencies, six in Kavango East and eight in Kavango West. “People think when elections start the war has started, that is not the case, we need to take each other’s feelings into consideration. Because even after the elections, we will need each other,” said Mbumba. He urged all party members to maintain good discipline and conduct during the campaign period. Residents of both regions are still waiting for the appointment of a new regional coordinator for one of the two regions. Currently, Johanna Kandjimi who was earlier this year elected as the coordinator for the region is heading the party activities in both regions. Sources within the party told New Era that Kandjimi will be posted to head the party activities in Kavango West where she hails from and enjoys popularity. Names that have been prominently mentioned as potential candidates to become the party coordinator in one of the two regions include Bonny Wakudumo, Victoria Kauma, Wensel Mavara and former Kavango governor John Thighuru. Kandjimi, Kauma and Thighuru competed for the coordinator position, which Kandjimi won.   By Mathias Haufiku
