WINDHOEK - Reigning champions in the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premiership, Western Suburbs, returned to winning ways after delivering a scorching performance to stave off a spirited Unam, securing a 41-16 victory in a highly entertaining league clash at Suburbs Park Stadium on Saturday. After succumbing to a 21-17 defeat at the hands of Rehoboth in their opening league fixture, Suburbs on Saturday made good use of their home ground advantage and made sure they got their league title campaign back on track with an inspiring victory against Unam to get their momentum going heading into the next round. Boosted by the electric atmosphere at Suburbs Park, the home side was in no mood to compromise with the visitors and immediately got down to serious business, as they launched an avalanche of attacks that had the visiting student on the back foot from the outset. Suburbs kept their composure and managed a string of decent passes, which saw them dominate the better part of the opening half - leading 20-9 going into the halftime break. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Suburbs picking up where they left off, but this time around they launched more dangerous sorties that all but denied Unam a chance of adding to their score. Approaching the final quarter of the match, Suburbs played well as a unit and showed good composure and organization in all departments, as opposed to their performance during their defeat in the opening league fixture. Suburbs held on to a comfortable 41-16 victory. In other results, Reho Falcon also had a good start to their campaign after they courageously galloped past Polytech with a convincing 35-16 victory, while Wanderers found the going tough on Saturday when they lost 12-19 to United in a tightly contested match. At the coast, Walvis Bay also delivered a gallant performance to avoid a possible home ground upset against coastal rivals Dolphins, recording a 38-19 victory to ensure smooth passage heading into the next round of matches.   By Otniel Hembapu
