WINDHOEK - After only six months of driving his taxi, lady luck was definitely on Mouyesa Mbangura’s side when he recently won the weekly Kosmos Radio Top Taxi Award. “When Kosmos Radio called me I thought it was a joke, I just could not believe my luck,” said the 25-year-old excitedly. He walked away with N$3 000 in his Basic Blue savings account, courtesy of Standard Bank Namibia and a first aid kit from E-MedRescue. As a newcomer in the booming taxi industry, Mbangura takes pride in his M448 Mitsubishi sedan taxi, which he treats as his own baby. “I like to keep her sparkling clean and fresh,” smiled the young man showing off his neatly decorated linen seat covers. “I love to drive my customers in style! Even though I am new in the taxi business and I know how important it is to drive safely and obey traffic rules. I look forward to buying a few nice things for my baby,” said Mbangura stroking his taxi’s bonnet. He is of the opinion that young taxi drivers, like himself, can also be good drivers like the experienced ones. What a lucky and disciplined guy indeed! Corporate sponsors of the Kosmos Radio Top Taxi Project are Standard Bank Namibia, Windhoek City Police, E-MedRescue, The Namibian and Shoprite.
