“I am disappointed to be a Namibia artist”-LeSean SWAKOPMUND- Despite the fifth edition of the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) promising bigger and better this year, a local artist is questioning and challenging  the “bigger and better” notion of Namibia premier yearly musical event. The artist is claiming that the annual event has become unexciting and inequitable tending to neglect some of the artists who highly contributed to the  local music industry. It all started when local Hip Hop artist, LeSean, real name Clinton Mubita, pulled of a Kanye West stunt and jumped on the NAMAs stage at the Indoor Sport Centre on Saturday evening, saying that he is very disappointed to be a Namibia artist as he is not yet recognised after being the first ever Namibia artist to drop an album which sold for N$999 per copy earlier this year. On stage, LeSean stated that there were two big events that took place in Namibia this year and no one paid attention to them, namely, Child of the Son Tour hosted in Otjiwarongo by M.C. Ray and the launch of his debut album titled ‘Thoats’. “I dedicated the album to the Namibian people with all my soul,” he says. LeSean also emphasises that the NAMAs, and its judges, must pay attention to all the Namibian artists who are contributing to the music industry.  He claims that he always had his fingers crossed with hopes of winning an award in the category of Best Single, for which he was nominated with his hit single, Gifted. LeSean is a Zambian-born rapper who grew up in Okahandja, Namibia. After completing his high school at the Okahandja Secondary School in 2010, LeSean relocated to Windhoek to complete his tertiary education at the University of Namibia (Unam), and that's when he began pursuing his love for music, and turned his focus primarily on music. He says selling the album at the cost of N$ 999 is going to be a chance for people to value local music.
