Windhoek The annual Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) ladies and men’s 2015 Interclub Tennis League kicked off recently with one league match played so far. The match played was between the men’s second league favourites CTC A and CTC B. Other second league fixtures and the ladies’ league matches were postponed as a result of the recent mid-week holiday. In one men’s first league match, between NamPol and CTC, NamPol got a walkover after the CTC team failed to pitch up for the match on time. This year’s league, by popular demand, will be played over two legs (home and away). This means the Khomas Region-based NTA clubs will play each other twice over the league season. The league runs until September 19 when all matches in the men’s second league would have been played. NamPol, Central Tennis Club (CTC), Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) and DTS tennis club have entered men’s and ladies’ teams in the first and the second divisions. CTC entered the highest number of teams with eight teams, most of them being in the men’s second league where the club registered five teams. In the men’s first league, four players make a team. The four players contest four singles and two doubles matches for a tally of 24. In the ladies and the men’s second league, four players form a team. The four players play two singles and three doubles and contest for a tally of 20 points. In the only match played this past weekend, CTC A crushed CTC B 20 points to zero. The dominance was such that the B side never won a single set from the possible 10 sets on offer. In the singles matches, CTC A’s Eno Akpabibo beat B’s Lawrence Kahindi 6-4, 6-0, while his counterpart Kuda Chani also beat B’s Ndumiso Moyo 6-2, 6-4 in the other singles match. In the doubles matches, CTC A’s pair of Sam Kaulinge and Bob Mould easily beat the combination of Tafadzwa Chakare and Kyalo Kitheka 6-2, 6-3. Kaulinge and Mould went on to beat B’s combination of Kahindi and Moyo 6-2, 6-3 in the reverse doubles. In the other reverse doubles the CTC A's combination of Akpabio and Chani comprehensively beat B’s Chakare and Kitheka 6-0, 6-2.
