Windhoek The SKW fistball fields in Windhoek will be buzzing with excitement on Saturday when action in the Bank Windhoek National Fistball League continues. A number of prolific encounters are expected in both the National A League and the Bank Windhoek National B League. The day will culminate with the announcement of the men’s national team that will represent Namibia at the Fistball World Championships later this year. The first game of the day promises some hard-hitting action when League A heavyweights SKW 1 and Cohen FC 1 square off. SKW 1 are the current log leaders, while Cohen FC 1 are in second place with five points behind the log leaders. Spiker Rico Kühnle-Kreitz and setter Stephan Zimny have shown terrific form for SKW 1 so far, while Cohen FC 1 will rely on spiker Tristan Minz, who returns from injury. The former U/18 national team captain has had a niggling back injury, which prevented him realising his full potential. Together with his team-mates, Mark Roesener and Götz Friedrich in defence, Cohen FC 1 is more than capable of springing a surprise on the unbeaten SKW team. Further down the log, SFC 1 will aim to wrestle back third place from SKW 2 whom they will play during the day. Cohen FC 3 are still unbeaten in the Bank Windhoek League B, but will need to pull out all stops on Saturday if they want to continue their good run. They will play both SFC 2 and SKW 3 who have given a good account of themselves during the last round of league games in April. After suffering some shock defeats early in the season, the team found their rhythm. With nine points on the board, they are only two points adrift from second place. Their game against current log leaders Cohen FC 3 is scheduled for 14h45. The day will end with a prize giving at the SKW Clubhouse where the player of the day will be honoured. In addition, the selectors will announce the final ten-man squad for the Men’s World Championships in Argentina from November 15 to 22. The early announcement of the team is necessary in order to finalise the travel and visa arrangements as well as to allow the team members to focus on preparing for the world cup during a number of scheduled training camps until their departure.
