Dancer, singer Karabo ran away with fashion show

Time Out
Time Out

Young local fashion designer, Mc Bright Kavari, who has fast been establishing himself on the design circuit locally and worldwide, has been at it again this time with a new collection that lured a conservative but enthusiastic number of fashion lovers to the Polytechnic of Namibia Hotel School last Thursday. Pinehas Nakaziko was there to witness the occasion. The fashion show was attended mostly by McBright’s fans with Dr Helen Ndume part of the guests. Although the show was behind schedule, those who turned out ended up with a great time. Surely thanks to singer-dancer, Karabo, who liven up the show from the opening to the end with her energetic singing-dancing Oviritje-Disco fusion repertoire. Karabo, and her two accompanying dancers could not but impressed as they like encaged animals moved from one end of the floored stage to indulge their fancy, much to the elation of the guests. With her gripping moves, the performance was amazing as she kept entertaining the guests for the whole night. But fashion the focus of the show, designer Merino Kandjii first showcased his The Gossip collection, which was not taken well by viewers. His designs, made from maize meal bags, evidently nothing much was done to perfect and finish the outfits in terms of design, rather than cutting one hole on top of the bag in which the models could protrude their heads through. McBright, known for his vibrant, bright coloured pieces made mostly in African prints, went on extra mile this time around to design his black collection under the theme, Evolution noir collection, which was in black colour with some garments mixed with a bit of white and red colour. Other works included his trademarks Otjiherero dresses which were as dramatic as usual with different fabrics. The models were wearing black in for shade with the jumpsuits covered with Otjiherero gown. His latest offerings show the clothes completely true to his vision as one of the best designers in the country. The fabrics were sponsored by Chelsea Fashions and the materials were of the exquisite and expensive type. The show wounded up just the way it started with a smashing ending by Karabo and Kavari thanking all his supporters and sponsored as well those who attended.
