Drowning victims identified

Windhoek The police have released the names of the people who died and survived on Saturday at Otjivize village in the Okangwati area, when a driver of a Toyota pickup carrying 14 passengers including a baby attempted to cross a river. The vehicle capsized and was swept away. Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi, the head of police media relations, informed the media at the weekly crime briefing on Sunday that the incident happened at 21h30 in the Kunene Region. The names of the deceased have been identified as Frans Manjara Thom, who was the driver, Maetusiepi Mbinge, five-month-old Tjireja Efraim, Uapingena Thom, Karumuani Tjindunda, Julith Mweliimbange Hamukwaya, 26, Kemuvazere Operi Ado Muhenye, 5 and Vision Zakutura Muhenye, 4. Shikwambi warned motorists to be careful when crossing rivers and driving through water. The survivors have been identified as Salom Tuindiline, 16, Granny Tuindileni, Funja Alfons, Uaungurisa Tjambiru, 34, Martin Katau Hamuulu, 25 and Patrick Michael, 45.
