Windhoek Four people in the north of the country committed suicide by hanging over the past weekend. On Saturday, May 28 at about 17h00, at Oshoopala location Abisai Paulus, 27, was found hanging with shoe laces from the roof of his bedroom. No suicide note was left behind and the next of kin were informed. Police investigations continue. Also on Saturday, May 28 at about 12h00, at Ohaushombo village, Philipus Haufiku, 39, was found hanging from the roof of his girlfriend’s bedroom with a rope. An inquest will also be held into the suicide of Lisias Kamati Thomas, 35, who was found hanging from a rope under a tree at Ongwediva New Reception location on Sunday, May 29 at about 06h00. On Thursday, May 26 at about 20h00, at Ohamupulungushu village in the Eenhana area, a 41-year-old man was found hanging from a rope attached to the roof of his hut. The deceased was identified as Andreas Shinovene and his next of kin were informed. No suicide note was left behind and police investigations continue. A case of murder was reported in the Erongo Region after a man was stabbed and chopped with a panga on Friday, May 27 at about 19h40 at Together location in Usakos by his elder brother and died. It is alleged the deceased, Lennet Unaeb, and the suspect were under the influence of alcohol and an argument erupted between them, resulting in the stabbing. The deceased was rushed to the Usakos hospital where he died upon arrival. The next of kin were informed and the suspect is still at large after he fled the scene. Police investigations continue. A case of attempted murder was reported at Rosh Pinah in the //Karas Region after a 21-year-old woman was stabbed seven times with a knife by a 26-year-old suspect on Saturday, at about 03h00. It is alleged the victim is the girlfriend to the suspect and they had an argument about the victim’s ex-boyfriend which led to the stabbing. The victim was taken to the Rosh Pinah state clinic where she was admitted in a serious, but stable condition. The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Rosh Pinah Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of attempted murder. A man was shot in the leg by an on-duty police officer in Okondjatu on Saturday, May 28 after he allegedly threatened the police with a knife and stones. According to Inspector Slogan Matheus, the 25-year-old man broke a gambling machine at a bar and fled the scene. When police officers traced him to another bar, he resisted arrest and started to fight with the police. In the process a female officer was injured on the left arm and a male officer on his head and his private parts. When the man allegedly ignored two warning shots fired by the police he was shot in the right upper leg. He was admitted at the Okondjatu clinic under police guard and is reportedly in a stable condition. A case of malicious damage to property was opened against him by the owner of the gambling machine and the police opened cases of resisting lawful arrest and assault on a police officer. As is procedure, a case of attempted murder was opened against the officer who shot the suspect and the docket was referred to the office of the prosecutor-general for a decision.
