MGVS to fundraise for study camps

Windhoek With their new project, which involves helping Grade 10 and 12 learners at Hage Geingob High School, the Monica Gender Violence Solution (MGVS) will start with their fundraising campaign this month, to secure funds to help prepare learners for the final examinations. The organisation plans on motivating learners to start camping on school premises during their year-end examination in two months. Founder of MGVS Shaanika Nashilongo says the only way learners can get top marks and pass their final examination is to study together and to stay focused on their books. “We can only do this by encouraging them to camp at the school during exams and for them to study together,” adds Nashilongo, pointing out that the organisation will provide everything that the learners need, including security. MGVS now has two ambassadors, popular award winning local artists, Exit and Female Donkey, who will be hosting a show at the school this month to raise money for the study camps. The organisation has been visiting the same school over the past several months, speaking to female learners about the danger of unwanted pregnancies, as well as counseling them on problems facing youth in general and the challenges they face. Apart from that, MGVS recently donated also blankets to single mothers in the Havana location, who have been supporting the organisation.
