Lüderitz
!Nami#nus constituency councillor, Jan Scholtz, has appealed for an ambulance for Aus residents.
Aus has a population of about 1 200.
Scholtz recently implored the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Bernard Haufiku, to consider assigning an ambulance to Aus.
He based his request on the fact that emergencies at Aus clinic in !Nami#nus constituency in //Karas region rely on ambulance services from Lüderitz located 120 km away, “which endangers lives”.
Should no ambulance from Lüderitz be available the clinic at Aus usually contacts Rosh Pinah located 170 km away or Keetmanshoop located 213 km away.
Scholtz made the request to the health minister following an accident on April 10 in which several people were injured.
After the accident the victims were only reached by the ambulance three hours later.
According to Scholtz, the area around Lüderitz, Aus and Rosh Pinah is one of high tourist concentration.
This is also the main thoroughfare between the central //Karas region and towns to the west. Therefore, Scholtz feels there is a need for a standby ambulance in Aus, as it is a central location for immediate first aid.
