Getting value for money is what the newly opened Mudi’s butchery promises the residents of Keetmanshoop.
The butchery, which is situated in Noordehoek, opened its doors last Friday. It promises to give the already established butcheries at the town a run for their money by providing quality meat products at what its claims will be far cheaper prices pound-for-pound of meat.

Sole owner of the business, Faustina Mudi Matamu, told New Era of her long struggles, saying that with the support of her family she is proud and happy her dream has finally come true.

Matamu says it is now up to her to reward her customers with excellent service and quality products at affordable prices.
“We want to give people a place they can go to and find a quality product at a cheaper price,” she said.

Currently employing five permanent staff and two casuals, Matamu narrates she was also once an employee, which somehow motivated her to dream big and have her own business.

She shared her journey from when she started working as a general worker for Pep Store before independence. Then in 1990 she moved with her husband to Keetmanshoop, where she immediately found a job at the same company Pep, after which she excelled from general worker to supervisor in her ten years at the store.

She quit her job and worked at a local butchery for the next eight years, when she equally climbed the ladder, from a cashier to a supervisor, and she says what triggered her to push for her dream to have her own place was when the butchery got new owners and she had more knowledge of the business than the new owners.

“I realized that I had acquired the experience and knowledge to run my own business,” she said.
Matamu says after quitting her last job, her mind was only focused on opening up her own butchery, and she never gave up on her dream, despite financial challenges, as she was determined to make her dream a reality.

She further says her butchery is focused on affordability and thus the butchery will buy animals from local farmers, which she says will ensure the customers are not charged excessively for meat products.

The dream however doesn’t stop there for Matamu, as her next goal is to take her butchery to different towns, with her home town set to be the second town to have her butchery in the near future.
