WINDHOEK – Twenty-six upcoming business owners in the Katutura East Constituency yesterday (Monday) received equipment and poultry feed to enhance their businesses.
Some N$155 000 was spent to purchase the equipment for hair salons, for catering for tailoring and for shoe-making.
The N$155 000 was availed by the Khomas Regional Council to help SMEs.
The administrator at the Katutura East Constituency office, Helena Makumbi, said beneficiaries would receive basic business training.
The beneficiaries will also be monitored to ensure they use the equipment for the intended purpose.
“Income generating projects are aimed at equipping the community to sustain themselves. It is government’s priority to fund these activities,” said Makumbi.
Councillor of the Katutura East Constituency, Elina Ndapuka, urged beneficiaries to look after the equipment.
“These equipment are government property and if your projects are not functioning government has the right to come and take these equipment and give it to other projects (businesses) that are functioning,” said Ndapuka.
“I am happy because I could not afford to buy equipment for my salon and government did it for me,” said Hilkka Fillemon, a salon owner who received some salon equipment.
“I feel good that government assisted me. I have been repairing shoes for 25 years,” said Gerhard Uukule who received shoe soles.
“I am grateful for the donation. I was in need of a printer that prints photos immediately because when I attend functions some people prefer to get their photos immediately and for me that means more money,” said Laurence Aoxamub who runs a photo and printing studio from his bedroom.
