Cattle herder electrocuted

MURURANI – A fatal electrocution incident was reported to Kavango West Police on Friday when a cattle herder was electrocuted after climbing a live electric pole at Ou-Cordon village near the Mururani roadblock.

The cheerless event, where the cattle herder, who was identified as Ncame Mise, died on the spot, happened at about 17h46 on Friday afternoon.

“It is alleged that a 21-year-old Namibian male died instantly. It is further alleged that the deceased climbed on the electricity pole before he was electrocuted. As a result, he fell from the pole and died on the spot,” said Kavango West police regional commander Josephat Abel, who confirmed the incident to New Era.

“His body was transported to Rundu mortuary for an autopsy. The deceased was employed as a cattle herder. Police investigation continues,” he noted.

In Kavango East, a man was found to have allegedly committed suicide on Friday at 16h30 at Katenture village.

According to the police, the victim, who was identified as Batista Kahandja, was last seen when he left the house on Friday morning, and his lifeless body was later found hanging on a tree with a rope around his neck.

“No suicide note was found, and no foul play was suspected,” said the police in a report.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed.
