Cops nab suspect in Saron murder

A suspect, linked to the murder of 28-year-old Charmaine Saron, who was stabbed 24 times and dumped in a riverbed behind the Hosianna Church in Katutura a fortnight ago, has been apprehended at Keetmanshoop on Saturday. Khomas police chief Ismael Basson confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect will first appear in Keetmanshoop before being transferred to Windhoek. “Obviously, with the help of informers, our suspicion was confirmed on who the suspect was,” Basson told journalists yesterday.    A police source at Keetmanshop told New Era the suspect reportedly arrived in the area last week with an open fresh wound on the arm. However, the source could not confirm how the suspect got injured. “Before he arrived in the area, he has been chatting through text messages with the girlfriend here. He arrived but had a wound and went to the hospital. The information started reaching the police.

We interrogated him on Friday and left but on Saturday, the evidential grounds linking him were confirmed and then he was apprehended,” the source indicated.  Khomas  police spokesperson Silas Shipandeni last week confirmed that a man was detained for questioning while the police were establishing the evidential grounds that could lead to his prosecution. He was released after 24 hours as they could not link him to the matter.
