Twenty-six student officers from the defence ministry graduated on Thursday after they completed their Diploma in Military Science (Junior Staff Course) level 6 at the Namibia Command and Staff College in Okahandja.

Addressing the graduates, defence minister Frans Kapofi urged them to demonstrate competence, professionalism and to make a difference wherever they will be posted to or assigned.

“You should bring innovative and creative ideas and skills that are necessary to bring about organisational effectiveness.  I do not doubt that this course has fully equipped you with the requisite skills that will subsequently enhance your employment proficiently. Training is an endless process,” he stated.

Kapofi said he is pleased that six of the graduates are female, which is part of the ministry’s policy on gender equality to further the essence and virtues of women in the defence force.

“I recommend that the number of female officers is increased in future courses. Junior Staff Course (JSC) number 15/2021, where 26 officers are graduating after having completed their studies, marks the end of 34 weeks of hard work, commitment and determination by the 26 graduates. This graduation ceremony marks yet another vital moment in the success and achievement of the Namibia Command and Staff College,” he added.

The event marked the fifteenth graduation ceremony of the JSC, which started on 17 May 2021.

Kapofi said the course is designed to develop the analytical abilities of the elected officers, to enhance their tactical knowledge, and non-operational military issues.

“This includes contemporary global and regional security and geo-strategy, among others. Therefore, it is vital that you keep developing yourselves by furthering your studies through continuous reading and taking up advanced courses,” he urged.
