Man nabbed with firearm, ammunition

The police in Zambezi last weekend arrested a suspect after he was found in possession of kudu meat, a firearm and ammunition without valid permits at Shiwunga village.

Being found in possession of firearms, ammunition and game meat without a valid permit is illegal, and one can be prosecuted.

“It was further established that the accused was not the lawful owner of the shotguns, nor had any authorisation to possess the arms and ammunition. The suspect is arrested and the investigation continues,’’ said the police in Zambezi. The suspect made his brief appearance in Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In another wildlife-related crime, at Epako in the Omaheke region, a suspect was arrested when he was found in possession of controlled wildlife products without a permit.

“On Saturday at 12h00 at Kanaan ‘B’ location Epako, Gobabis district, Omaheke region, following an undercover operation, a man was arrested for possession and sale of a pangolin skin, valued at N$50 000 to an undercover police officer,’’ said the Omaheke police in a media report.

“The suspect (31) was scheduled to appear before Gobabis Magistrate Court on Monday 6 June 2022,’’ the police said.

In an unrelated crime, the police in Kavango West arrested a 29-year-old man for attempted murder and possession of cannabis seeds at Mupini in Kavango West.

It is alleged the arrested suspect stabbed a 26-year-old man three times on his back while on their way from Mupini shebeen.

“It is alleged that the suspect and victim had an argument. The victim sustained serious injuries. It is alleged that during the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of cannabis seeds. Police investigation continues,’’ said the police in a report.

Still at Mupini, the police were called to a suicide scene, where a 40-year-old woman committed suicide in the wee hours of Saturday at around 05h00 at Mupini village.

According to the police, the victim, Laimi Hausiku (40), hanged herself with a rope around her neck in her sleeping room, and no suicide note was left behind.
