MTC rolls out fibre in Khomas

Staff Reporter

To date, MTC has deployed 475km of fibre for backbone to its sites to alleviate congestion currently experienced by users. The most recent fibre installations took place in Windhoek’s Pionierspark Extension 1, Dorado Park, Olympia, Kleine Kuppe and in the coastal suburb of Langstrand.

This is in addition to areas such as Elisenheim, Ambrose Village (Kleine Kuppe), Grace Court (Khomasdal) and Auas Breeze (Cimbebasia). MTC executive Tim Ekandjo said these areas can now apply and enjoy SpectraHome packages.

“This development answers the long wait of a reliable connectivity, while also smoothening the company’s journey of creating a sustainable value for all our stakeholders through innovative digital solutions and a high-performance culture,” said Ekandjo. MTC is currently running a ‘refer-a-friend’ campaign, where current Spectra subscribers will be rewarded for referring a friend who signs up for the service.

This campaign is available to all Spectra Home subscribers and is currently running until the 21 December 2022. According to MTC, the speed and bandwidth capabilities of Spectra ranges between five to 50Mbps speed, depending on the package selected, which are provisioned for unlimited data.

This means more rapid access to data and applications while ensuring seamless uploading and downloading for home entertainment, live streaming, smart home functionalities and any other internet-based requirements and communications.

Regarding future plans, MTC plans to continue with the fibre to home in various towns (Windhoek, Swakopmund and Walvisbay), supported by additional back-bone expansions to the transmission towers.
