MTC Windhoek Fashion Week calls for entries

One of the country’s biggest fashion events, MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (MWFW), is calling on fashion designers to apply to showcase their work at the prestigious event, set for 2-6 November 2021 in Windhoek. The four-day showcase aims to present designers from across Africa, alongside home-grown talent in the categories of emerging designers, student/start-up designers and established designers. Started in 2016, the event has gradually grown, with designers from Namibia, Rwanda, Angola, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Mozambique and South Africa having showcased their work.

In its sixth edition, MWFW will be held under the theme: ‘Made in Namibia’ in celebration of locally made fashion products.

The local fashion industry is indeed booming, with new designers showcasing at the Windhoek fashion week every year, as well as alternative models, such as plus size and older women being added to the runway line-up.  “With this rapid growth, the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week created this platform to celebrate and allow Namibian and international designers to showcase their collections and also collaborate,” said its marketing director Kalistu Mukoroli.

In a press statement, Mukoroli said the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week is in talks with other organisations across Africa to give opportunities to Namibian designers to showcase their work in those countries.

Windhoek fashion week organisers will host model castings in Ongwediva, Swakopmund and Windhoek.

“This is to allow more models to be cast by the selection committee. Exact dates will be communicated in advance,” he said, adding that there will also be a model masterclass to prepare all models before the castings.

Designer applications are currently available for a fee of N$250, payable upon submitting the online application.
