No bail for corpse violator

The Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court yesterday denied bail to a 40-year-old man arrested on Saturday for allegedly digging up the grave of a two-year-old and violating the corpse.

After making his first court appearance yesterday, accused Lukas Sikerete was remanded in custody and had his case postponed to 10 January 2024 for further police investigations.

According to Namibian Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Elias Kuwinga, the incident happened on Saturday at the !Gomkhaos cemetery in the Tsintsabis settlement of the Oshikoto region.

He said Sikerete faces charges related to grave violation and corpse disturbance after authorities discovered body parts, including the skull at his house, which is about 200 metres from the cemetery.

The family of the deceased noticed signs of disturbance at the grave on Saturday, leading them to follow the suspect’s footprints to his house.

Sikerete is an unemployed resident of Tsintsabis.
