Ongwediva plots in demand

The Ongwediva Town Council has recorded 5 588 applications for erven in the current financial year.

The town, south of Oshakati in the Oshana region, has a population of 20 260 inhabitants. It has grown exponentially in the past two decades, and boasts modern urban facilities, including diverse private commercial and public institutions.

According to the town’s spokesperson Jackson Muma, 2 940 are low-income earners, 715 are middle-income earners and 1 933 are high-income earners, all desperately trying to get land.

“We received 29 applications for general residences and five for agricultural purposes, which indicates residents have a low interest in agriculture” he stated.

The council also received 168 applications for business purposes, 193 for industrial and 39 for institutional purposes.

A combined 209 erven have been made available at the Onawa, Okandjengedi and Mandume locations, while 74 erven have been allocated at Efidi Proper.

Muma said 103 erven are in an advanced planning stage at Efidi Extension 6, and 300 erven are planned for Onawa Proper.

In addition, 100 erven at Efidi Extension 2, and 70 at Efidi Extension 3 are due to be surveyed.

Although the demand for land continues to increase in Ongwediva, the council assured its residents that it will meet their demands.
