Shangula unaware of Netherlands doses donation

Health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said Namibia is yet to receive an official confirmation on the donation of AstraZeneca vaccine doses by the Netherlands authorities. Netherlandsnewslive.com announced Monday that the Dutch government will make AstraZeneca available for donation to Tanzania and Namibia. The Netherlands will reportedly donate the 745 000 doses of AstraZeneca that are still in stock to countries in need.

“AstraZeneca vaccines will also be made available from this stock for donation to Tanzania and Namibia. These are vaccines that are now well packaged and refrigerated in stock here in Oss. Other ordered vaccines that the Netherlands no longer needs are preferably sent directly from the manufacturer to Covax, where the necessary accessories are distributed fairly throughout the world.  It was previously announced that the Netherlands is donating to Suriname, Cape Verde and Indonesia,” read the report on Netherlandsnewslive website.

To that, Shangula indicated the formal communication is yet to reach his office. However, Shangula confirmed that the country is expected to receive 40 800 AstraZeneca doses by the end of this week. “What I can confirm is that we are expecting AstraZeneca doses this week or very soon. But the one from Netherlands I am not aware of,” he explained.
