The Legends brand is of top standard

Twenty-three-year-old NUST student Nicky Hamalwa started his ‘Legends’ brand of clothing line six years ago to meet his parents halfway in paying for his studies.

“My parents could not manage to satisfy all my needs because we are a lot in the house with my siblings, and we all go to school. I thus decided to start my business of selling my Legends t-shirts,” he told the Youth Corner.

Hamalwa now also supports his siblings with the money he makes from his clothing line.

He started his brand of t-shirts when he was in grade 10, and now owns a shop that sells t-shirts, jerseys, tracksuits and caps in Freedomland, Windhoek.

“I am so proud of myself to own one of the best brands in Windhoek,” he said, adding that he got inspiration from other local clothing lines such as Mshasho and ‘Respect my Hustle’.

Hamalwa, who is in his final year of a Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice, said the local brands’ industry is growing rapidly in Windhoek, and he believes he has put in the work to ensure his brand is of top standard.

He aims to remain focused to ensure his brand remains operational for many years, since many youths like wearing it.

The prices range between N$150 and N$250 for golf shirts, while jerseys go for N$350 and T-shirts for N$120.

“To my fellow youth out there, I would to like to say: be you and stay true to yourself. Try do something productive while you are still in school because that is the best way to meet your parents halfway, especially when your parents don’t have jobs,” he advised.

Hamalwa urged people to start supporting local clothing brands in order to promote local businesses.

Legends clothing can be purchased through orders.
