The police in Katima Mulilo are investigating a case of theft after thieves broke into the NBC tower site at the town and stole 410 litres of diesel from the tower’s emergency power generator.
“The theft was on Saturday, 16 April between 23h00 to 05h00 at the NBC tower at Butterfly location. It is alleged the suspect broke the generator terminals and drained out 410 litres diesel to the value of N$8 850,’’ the police said in a report seen by New Era.
According to the police, no recovery or arrest has been made yet, but police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, the Katima Mulilo police are also investigating a murder case after a young man of unknown age was attacked by a gang, and later died in hospital.
“The incident happened on Saturday at 23h54 at New Cowboy compound. It is alleged the deceased, Muyenga Siyemo, and his friend were attacked by a group of unknown men, who demanded money from them at Cowboy compound,” said the police.
The police said the victim was beaten, while his friend managed to flee.
“He was transported to Katima Mulilo state hospital, where he was later declared dead. He had very serious head injuries, and was suspected to be hit with a brick. His next of kin were informed,’’ the police said.
Meanwhile, at Sanungu village, Maunga area of Zambezi region, a woman was struck by lightning last Saturday at 18h30.
It is alleged the victim, Puteho Mulwazi Harriety, died on the spot after she was struck by lightning.
