Windhoek woman brutally beaten

A case of assault was opened yesterday against a Windhoek woman, who allegedly attacked a 28-year-old woman in the early hours of Friday in Goreangab.

The victim was allegedly assaulted by the mother of her boyfriend’s children.
The victim, who requested anonymity, told New Era she was sleeping with her boyfriend when a woman broke the door to the flat belonging to her boyfriend.

A fight ensued after the woman allegedly questioned why the victim was sleeping “with her man”.
“She jumped onto me with a beer bottle and hit me with it in the head. She was also hitting me with a broom on my head, back and shoulders until it got broken. At that time, my boyfriend just dressed up and drove off, leaving us alone,” narrated the victim, who said she has been in a relationship with the boyfriend for over a year.

A community activist Jeremia Itenge has called on residents to step up and help victims of abuse in the safest way possible.
“When one sees the abuse of any kind, it is imperative that we step up; it requires collective effort to tackle the scourge of abuse,” he said. When approached for comment, police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said the police were still busy compiling all crime reports from the weekend.
