The remains of Mbamunondjamo Kaahangoro were on Saturday laid to rest at his home village of Otjinene, Omaheke region at Ozombuzovindimba, which is the Ovaherero memorial shrine, more than a year after his death.

Kaahangoro, dubbed as the Darling of Otjinene and who is also credited for the transformation of Otjinene to settlement status, died last December due to Covid-19 complications. He was buried at a Gobabis cemetery in the Omaheke region due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time.   

Otjinene councilor Erwin Katjizeu, who has been instrumental in the reburial of Kaahangoro at the memorial shire, told New Era over the weekend that he was now at peace.

“Kaahangoro played an important role in the development of Otjinene. It was among my top priorities to get his remains back. He was the face of Otjinene, and it is befitting to give him this honour,” he said. 

The reburial was attended by scores of people wearing Ovaherero traditional attire.  

Vetaruhe Kandorozu, former Okakarara councillor-turned-fulltime farmer, was a family friend and described the late Kaahangoro as energetic and formidable, who was always ready for any task put to him.

At the time of his passing, Kaahangoro (45) was the human resources manager of the Otjinene Village Council. He was also a prominent member of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority. Kaahangoro was instrumental in the formation of the Otjinene Expo that put the settlement on the map and also attracted investors thereto.
