The Izimwe-Nabolelwa gravel road was last Friday officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, James Sankwasa.
The gravel road, about 22 kilometres off the Ngoma road, included the construction of a 2.8km long access road from the main road to Masikili Junior Primary School. It cost government N$43 million.

The district road 3524 is expected to provide easier access from the surrounding villages of Nakabolelwa, Muyamazana, Kabula, Museke, Namuhwe, Makotokoto and Izimwe to the main road from Katima Mulilo to Ngoma border post. This will easily connect residents to schools and health facilities as previously they used to struggle to travel particularly during the rainy season.

Sankwasa however stressed that the road cannot be regarded as complete until it connects to other areas in the flood-prone areas.
“I want to implore the Roads Authority to speedily address the issue of Ishuwa and adjacent small depressions and culverts in order to give access to the people of Ihaha, Ivilivinzi, Mbalasinte, Nsundwa and Kasika to the main road leading to Katima Mulilo, the regional capital of Zambezi Region,” said Sankwasa.

He said that the extreme difficulties the communities from these flood-prone areas experience year in and year out should be addressed sooner rather than later.

Speaking at the same occasion the CEO of the Roads Authority (RA) Conrad Lutombi revealed that this was just the beginning, as phase two of the project aims to connect other flood-prone areas up to Kasika.
