The Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT), housed at the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), has officially launched the National Cybersecurity Incident Management Guidelines 2026, themed “Building a Cyber Resilience Ecosystem,” on 29 April 2026. This landmark event took place in Ondangwa, bringing together key stakeholders from government, private sector and civil society to fortify Namibia’s digital future.
Recognising the exponential growth of digital reliance across sectors, NAM-CSIRT has developed these comprehensive guidelines to strengthen Namibia’s cyber resilience.
Elton Witbooi, Acting CRAN CEO, stated that, “Our cybersecurity landscape demands a proactive and coordinated approach.
These guidelines are a vital step towards safeguarding our critical infrastructure and fostering trust in Namibia’s digital ecosystem.
Building a resilient cyber environment is a collective effort, as it hinges on collaboration, awareness and continuous improvement.”
The guidelines set a clear framework for incident detection, reporting, analysis, and response, aligned with international standards such as the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 27001 and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework. They underscore the importance of risk-based strategies, staff training, and public awareness campaigns to mitigate cyber threats effectively.
“Cybersecurity is not just a technical challenge but a strategic imperative for national security and economic stability,” emphasised Witbooi. Emma Theofelus, Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), highlighted government’s unwavering commitment, and commended that, “These guidelines exemplify our dedication to creating a safe digital space for all Namibians. We are fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness and resilience that will serve as a foundation for future growth.
It is crucial that all sectors align their efforts and adhere to these standards to protect our citizens and vital services.”
Moreover, this initiative marked a significant milestone in Namibia’s journey towards a robust cybersecurity ecosystem, emphasising trust, collaboration, and resilience.
NAM-CSIRT and CRAN remain committed to continuous review and enhancement of these guidelines, ensuring Namibia stays ahead in the ever-evolving cyber landscape.0
