The Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) Beach Volleyball 2015 tournament recently took place at the DTS Sports Club in Olympia, Windhoek. It was the second of three events earmarked for the capital this year.

The mixed 4-a-side competition took place between six teams that all had at least one woman on court at all times. With regulars, Meatco Lovers and Meatco Paradise battling for the title, a new team from Walvis Bay (Navy) stepped in to add some flavour to the competition.

The round robin saw Meatco Lovers winning all three of their matches to guarantee them first place. Second place became a close fight between the much-experienced Meatco Paradise and the Navy team.

The head-to-head match became the deciding factor in giving Meatco Paradise second place, with a solid 2-0 win over the team from the Erongo Region (25/21, 25/23).

The social 2-a-side competition had 11 teams divided into two groups where the top two from each group would meet in the semi-finals.

Damian Schreiber (16), who won the social 2-a-side category at the previous event, had a new partner, Marco Jauss, but this didn’t seem to affect his dominance.

The boys won all but one of their games on the way to securing another trip to the semis. Luca Kesselmann (9) and his father, Heiko, once again made steady progress through the group phase and finished second to progress to the semis.

In the semi-finals the Kesselmanns met Schreiber/Jauss, but with devastating efficiency Schreiber/Jauss won the game 21:8. The other semi saw Andreas Ewald and Emily Neuhaus take on juniors Friedja Mehnert and Joern Diemer.

It was a very close battle but the senior pair of Ewald and Neuhaus managed to advance to the final 21:17. Third place went to Mehnert/Diemer after a close fight against the father and son but the Kesselmanns had to settle for 4th place.

The final saw Schreiber/Jauss turn around their only loss in the group stages to beat Ewald/Neuhaus 21:11, 21:14 to take the Social 2-a-side title. If Schreiber and Jauss continue winning this category, they stand a great chance of moving to the men’s senior group next year.
