Okakarara Vocational Training Centre (OVTC) won gold after scooping first place in women’s soccer and first place in women’s volleyball at the VETSUN Games held in Rundu over the past week.
This year’s Vocational Education Training Sport Union of Namibia (VETSUN) Games, were held at the Dr Romanus Kampungu School field and Rundu Vocational Training Centre (RVTC) played host. RVTC, however, only managed one gold medal after getting first place in netball.
Valombola VTC took second place and Zambezi VTC third; in women’s volleyball Okakarara VTC took first place, while second place went to Windhoek VTC and third place to Zambezi VTC.
In the men’s volleyball Zambezi VTC took first place, while Valombola took second place; third place went to Windhoek VTC.
And in the women’s soccer code, Okakarara VTC showed their strength and won the first place; Eenhana VTC took second place, while host Rundu VTC came third. In the men’s soccer Valombola VTC took first position, with Eenhana in second place and Okakarara VTC third.
The top female soccer goal scorer was Caroline Kaitjizemine from OVTC with 8 goals, while the top men’s soccer goal scorer was Mangundu Katuesa from RVTC with 4 goals.
The teams were competing in various codes ranging from netball to football for both male and female, as well as volleyball for both males and females. The games where celebrated under the theme, ‘Sport adds to a healthy mind’ and aimed to encourage all technical vocational institutions to incorporate sports into education.
Participating teams this year included Valombola VTC, Zambezi VTC, Nakayale VTC, Windhoek VTC, Eenhana VTC and of course the double first place winners Okakarara VTC, as well as a team from the National Youth Service (NYS).
