Assault accused slits own throat

OMUTHIYA – A 20-year-old man, who was accused of assaulting his girlfriend, died after slitting his own throat with a kitchen knife on Friday in the Oshikoto region.

The incident happened around 06h00 at Onekotale village of Okankolo constituency, while the victim was at the police station to open a case.

“While we were busy interviewing and taking statements from the girlfriend, we received a report that the suspect’s lifeless body has been found by a family member under a tree with a cut on his throat with blood oozing.

A kitchen knife was found next to the body,” says Oshikoto crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua. The victim was identified as Martin Toivo Ndakongelao. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old Lot Matsi was arrested last week after he allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times with a knife. The incident happened around 03h25 in Kuvikiland informal settlement on the outskirts of Tsumeb. The suspect appeared in local the magistrate’s court and was denied bail. “The victim was admitted to Tsumeb’s state hospital and later transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital for further treatment. She is in a stable condition,” said Katjiua.

Drowning

In addition, Katjiua said two toddlers aged two and three drowned in a water pond last Thursday at Okambonde village in Oniipa constituency. It is alleged the siblings were left unattended and snuck out of the house. “The kids were left in the care of the father by their mother who went to Ondangwa. The father later went to the neighbours, leaving the kids playing. However, when he returned a while later, he discovered they were missing, and after a search, he tracked footprints heading to the pond where he saw the lifeless bodies floating,” she added. The victims were identified as Paulus Nadhipite and Selma Nangutuwala.
