Digital seminar on cyberbullying

A digital seminar is mooted for Tsumeb, with the aim to unpack issues affecting teenagers on the internet.  The event, to be organised by Salt and Light company, will be conducted virtually as the world celebrates the Day of the African Child.

Salt and Light Namibia will host its first virtual seminar for every teenager on Saturday, 19 June 2021.

“The seminar will unpack topics teenagers face in the digital age, including cyberbullying, sexting, addiction, internet safety, porn, anxiety, depression privacy and reputation.

Emma Sadleir, South Africa’s leading expert on social media law, founder of the Digital Law Company and co-author of the book Selfies, sexts and smartphones will be the guest speaker at the online event,” says Salt and Light founder and managing director Alina Garises. “There are plenty of good things about social media, but also many risks and things we should avoid all together. Therefore, to aid with online safety, we are organising this virtual seminar to help protect children by educating them about online etiquette. It is never too early but can be too late to teach our children good social media habits. Therefore, it is imperative for each parent who really cares about his or her child’s online safety to attend this webinar on 19 June 2021,” she added.

Garises further stated that whether people like it or not, social media is here to stay.

“Receiving mean comments on digital platforms such as social media can hurt a child’s self-esteem and could lead to depression – and worst-case scenario, suicide. While on the other hand, writing and sharing mean comments can get you into trouble – and, potentially, legal trouble. Hence, I encourage all parents together with their kids to be part of this important discussion,” she reiterated.

Salt and Light Namibia is an online driven business, with its head office in Tsumeb, Namibia.

The company specialises in selling delicious food and a selection of books.

Those interested to partake are advised to contact the company directly.
