Ekandjo urges corporates to invest in netball

Sponsorship continues to be a stumbling block for the growth of sport in the country.

MTC chief human capital and corporate affairs officer Tim Ekandjo thus called on corporates to get on board and assist teams in the newly launched MTC Namibia Netball Premier League anyway they can.

“We are encouraging all other corporates to please come to the aid of these teams. You have Spar, and you have Checkers, Shoprite, Pep Stores and all these companies making millions in our country. Please come to the aid of these teams, even if you give N$100 or N$ 200 000, so that they can sustain themselves.

“The money we are giving them is not enough and we encourage those companies to please come on board and support Netball Namibia,” said Ekandjo during the launch of the league Friday.

He thanked the leadership of Netball Namibia for allowing them to invest in the sport.

“Let it become a dream of every Namibian child and woman to play netball,” he said.

MTC is sponsoring the league with N$4.2 million for the next three year.

Matches in the 12-team league commenced on Friday.
