Geingob showered with well wishes 

Chinese president Xi Jinping yesterday congratulated President Hage Geingob on his 80th birthday and said he is willing to work with the Namibian leader to promote the two countries’ bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields to new heights.

Xi said China and Namibia are good friends and close partners. 

“Since your excellency took office as Namibian president, the traditional friendship between our two countries has been continuously deepened to be comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership,” Xi said.

“We have jointly drawn up a blueprint for our bilateral relations development through multiple meetings and phone calls. I highly appreciate your recent attending [of] the summit between the Communist Party of China and world political parties, and making remarks there,” he added.

Xi said in the fight against the pandemic of Covid-19, China and Namibia have stood together and supported each other and, therefore, they have opened a new chapter in bilateral friendship.

Recently, he said, China’s Shenzhou-12 spacecraft was launched successfully with the Namibian flag in it, which demonstrates the high and strategic level to a new high.

“I attach great importance to developing the China-Namibia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and I am willing to work with you to promote our bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields to a new [height],” he said. 

On his part, Founding President Sam Nujoma said reaching 80 years was a massive milestone worthy of celebration.  “We remain indebted to the contributions you made in your lifetime in the liberation of our country. Your unwavering and continued commitment to the realisation of a prosperous Namibia is a long-lasting legacy. We, therefore, thank you, Comrade President, for your consistently positive motivation to the nation in these trying times of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Former president Hifikepunye Pohamba and his wife Penehupifo also wished the Head of State “strength, good health, and a sound mind as you lead the Namibian people through this economic and health challenges”. 

President Vladimir Putin also sent well wishes to Geingob yesterday saying, “we acknowledge your principled adherence to the consolidation of the friendly relations between our two countries. I am confident that these relations will further develop for the benefit of the peoples of Russia and Namibia, in the interest of promoting peace, security and stability on the African continent.”
