Hip Hop World Cup is here...as Cassidy Karon launches third album with YoungstaCPT

It is going to be a hip hop affair when local lyrist Cassidy Karon launches his 14-track album, christened ‘Street Light’ at XS lounge tomorrow night.

“I would like everybody to come because this is gonna be the Hip Hop World Cup. Everybody is putting in an effort – from the artists to the organisers. We are trying to create a free cultural moment, and we want everybody to witness this because it’s gonna be the resurgence of hip hop,” he told VIBEZ!

Dubbed ‘Katutura’s Favourite Son’, Karon will be bringing in a special guest by the name of YoungstaCPT from South Africa to make the night memorable.

“Youngsta has been in Namibia before but he has not been with this generation and crop of artists. This is also a time to pass the baton and spark some inspiration and start the conversation to see how far hip hop has grown over the past two decades while also giving flowers to the ones that started the game and the ones that will carry it further,” he explained.

Karon said the line-up is “ridiculous” because he will be having 15 local acts on the night.

Younger artists will also grace the stage, which does not usually happen on popular shows.

The NAMA award winner is now in his fourth year as a solo artist and describes the feeling as “astonishing”.

“It’s so rewarding to know that I was right with my idea and that I was strong not to compromise my craft and art. There are times that you are overlooked because you are working on something that people are not accustomed to, but I knew somewhere along the line it would pay off,” he said. The sleek rapper said his art is his contribution to the music game and how he sees life through his lens.

“I just want to share this with the world because somewhere out there, there is a kid who thinks like me that I might inspire. I would be doing an injustice if I changed my way of thinking. I’m more refined, more mature and wiser – obviously, the road is long. Where I am now, I’m starting to find success in the moves that I make, and people are starting to resonate with the sound and style.”

Some other supporting acts are JBlack, Skrypt and Ali that Dude, including five DJs.
