Horse racing at Okondjatu this weekend

Horse racing fanatics will be in for a big treat this weekend when the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA) host what is expected to be a thrilling horse racing event at the Okondjatu settlement in the Okakarara constituency.

NHRA president Marthinus de Waal yesterday said everything is set, as all participants have confirmed their readiness for the race. The very best of Namibian race horses can be expected to grace this event, which takes place tomorrow.

“The race will consist of 14 plates in total and will strictly see local horses competing for top prizes. This time around, we have no international invites as the Covid-19 situation could not allow us, so it’s going to be another interesting one to watch between the very best of our local race horses,” de Waal said.

He added that people coming to the event will be expected to adhere to the set Covid-19 rules and safety regulations, which will be fully implemented at the race.

“I want to remind our participants and spectators to continue adhering to the health rules and regulations as Covid-19 is still among us. There will be sanitising of hands and people will be required to wear their masks at all times during the event to ensure their safety,” he added.
