The grand plan around the third edition of the annual Namibia Sport Expo is to make it an inclusive, memorable and world-class event.

This is where local and international sports federations and personalities will all be accorded an opportunity to showcase their services and products under one roof. 

This year’s expo, which will be held under a new three-year partnership between the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) and MTC Dome, will take place from 8-11 December at the MTC Dome High-Performance Centre in Swakopmund. 

Speaking at the official launch of the 2022 edition of the expo in the capital yesterday, The Dome’s sports director Ulla Kinkeldey said this year’s expo will be a multifaceted event, which will include a conference, workshops, and an exhibition all running simultaneously. 

“The NSC and MTC Dome are committed to empowering and inspiring all Namibians through sport. Being the largest and most versatile indoor sports facility in Namibia, the MTC Dome High-Performance Centre is an Association of Sports Performance Centres (ASPC) internationally-accredited entity and multi-functional sports destination for all,” she said. 

“This year’s event is going to be of national and international importance, as it will bring together talented Namibians and key regional and global sports stakeholders, generating significant value for all participants. This is in alignment with the NSC’s strategic plan to ensure an enabling environment and high-performance culture amongst local athletes.” 

“It will also place special emphasis on skills training in generating much-needed momentum for growth and the development of sport at all levels,” she added.

Meanwhile, NSC chief administrator Freddy Mwiya said they anticipate this year’s event to attract more international exhibitors and five international athletes will be in attendance. 

He reiterated that the aim is to make it one of the best events ever witnessed, adding that the partnership with the MTC Dome will go a long way in ensuring they achieve that goal.

“This year will be different and unique, as we are expecting more international exhibitors. With our previous expos, we had about two to three exhibitors from abroad but for this year, we will attract more than 21 international exhibitors and also international athletes who will all come and motivate our local athletes,” he said.

Mwiya also shared that this time around, the event’s hosting cost implications on the NSC will be far less than what they had spent on the first two editions of the expo.

“The MTC Dome has a lot of partners whom they will also bring on board and that will ease the financial burden on the NSC and government.” 

Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), New Era Publication Corporation, and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation are some of the sponsors this year.
