RUNDU – The directorate of education in Kavango East has constructed 12 ablution facilities at several schools across the region at the cost of N$4.5 million during 2020/2021.

This was revealed by Kavango East governor Bonifatius Wakudumo on Friday during his state of the region address (Sora) in Rundu, where he gave an account on how the regional government performed in 2020 and further outlined priority areas of the current financial year
(2021/2022).

“The construction of 12 ablution blocks happened at Sikanduko, Mayana, Ndama and Nyangana combined; Rudolf Ngondo, Mbambi, Andreas Kandjimi primary school, Rundu Senior Primary; Mbapuka, Kamundema and Tjova Primary – and some at Martin Ndumba Senior Secondary
schools. 

“They were constructed to the tune of N$4 505 328,” the governor said.   

The directorate of education also constructed some hostel blocks. 

“At Ndiyona Combined School, three blocks, while one block was constructed at Divundu Combined School, costing N$3 822 312,” he said.

While the renovation of five ablution blocks was executed at Noordgrens, Maria Mwengere and Martin Ndumba secondary schools, along with Kambimba and Livayi Combined Schools, to the tune of N$3 236 706.

The directorate also did maintenance of 12 school hostel kitchens, costing N$2 167 331,” he said.

Wakudumo, during his address, noted that considerable progress has also been made in the renovation of Linus Shashipapo Secondary School and Andara Combined School at the cost of N$91 million and N$33 million, respectively.

The construction of Rundu Rural West Primary School in Sauyemwa, which was supposed to open for school this year, is currently at 95% completion – and it costs over N$23 million.

“At the same time, 153 schools benefited from the school feeding programme at a cost of N$8 234 030,” he noted.

The governor also reported that the directorate of education managed to construct two classrooms at Likwaterera Senior Primary School at the cost of N$645 915.
