Safety and security minister Albert Kawana has visited police stations in the northern regions to familiarise himself with the challenges, achievements as well  as operations on the ground.

Kawana told New Era that his ministry wants to find out about the challenges faced by the police stations in Omusati, Oshana and Ohangwena, especially those in the villages, as well as to see the security set-up in the police.

“I decided to visit police stations, and to also meet with the regional police command so that we discuss the challenges faced and other shortages of facilities affecting police stations,” he added.

The minister was accompanied by the inspector general of the Namibian police, Sebastian Ndeitunga, as well as the executive director of the ministry, Etienne Maritz.

Kawana also visited almost 3 000 Angolan refugees, who migrated to Namibia due to the drought in their country. The immigrants have settled at Oshifo and Etunda in the Omusati region.

His ministry will strive to ensure that police officers operate under proper working conditions, have valuable equipment and adequate transport to make their work easier, especially those in remote areas.

“I would like to thank all police officers for their dedication and hard work towards their duty to ensure the safety of the Namibian people,” he noted. 

Kawana thus urged officers to remain committed in their work to fight against crime.
