Limkokwing to embark on outreach programmes

Limkokwing University, which opened its doors in August this year with 70 students enrolled in three diploma programmes, has now embarked on an outreach programme across the country aimed at making education accessible to every Namibian.

The Khomasdal-based campus commenced activities with the first cohort of freshmen in information technology; broadcasting (radio and television); and architectural technology.

Vice-chancellor of the university  Dr Hoze Riruako told the media last week that the roadshow serves to bring the university to the doorstep of the Namibian child.

So far, it has been only Windhoek and other major towns that have benefitted from quality education brought to them, to the detriment of those in peri-urban and rural areas.

“It was against that background that we have decided on these outreach programmes to make sure the bulk of the population that resides in the peri-urban and rural areas of this country get access to quality and unique programmes offered by our university,” said Riruako.

These outreach programmes will take place at the commencement of every academic year, or at the conclusion thereof.

The roadshow commenced on Friday, and will end on 14 December. The first regions to be visited are Omaheke, Otjozondjupa, Kavango East and West, Zambezi, Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto.

Thereafter, Hardap, //Kharas and Erongo will receive visits.

Riruako is adamant the students produced at their institution of higher learning will make a significant contribution to the county’s economic growth.

Limkokwing is the first private university in Malaysia to offer degrees and diplomas in multimedia, design, mass communication, architecture, environment, business management and globalisation as well as information technology.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (Proprietary) Limited is registered to operate as a private university (higher education institution) in Namibia since June 2016. The university is wholly and privately-owned by its late founding president, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing.
