Man accused of hacking grandma denied bail

RUNDU – A 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court after reportedly murdering his 80-year-old grandmother at Kaguni village in Kavango West.
The suspect, Michael Kandjimi, was denied bail when he appeared before Rundu magistrate Sonia Samupofu, and prosecution was represented by Variety Matamata.

Kandjimi allegedly hacked his helpless grandmother Antonia Sikerete with an axe on Tuesday evening, causing her to die instantly.
During his first appearance, the State objected granting him bail, citing the seriousness of the crime he is charged with.
The suspect may, however, apply for bail formally. His case was postponed to 16 March for further police investigation as well as for the accused to apply for legal aid representation as he indicated.
