Man beats girlfriend for unplugging radio

A 30-year-old woman was assaulted until she was unconscious for merely pulling the noisy radio off the plug to stop her boyfriend’s loud music at midnight in Oranjemund.

A case of attempted murder, read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, has been opened against the suspect.

According to the police, on Friday, 20 January 2023 at about 00h30 at Okawe Village, Cluster Hostel, Block E, Oranjemund, a 29-year-old man was arrested after it is alleged that he assaulted his girlfriend.

It is further reported that the suspect started playing loud music when he came home while the victim and their one-year-old baby boy were sleeping.

“She requested him to lower the volume because it was late and their baby was sleeping but the suspect refused. She pulled the radio off the plug and her actions angered the suspect to the extent he started assaulting her until she became unconscious,’’ the police said in a report.

“Members who were patrolling on foot found the victim lying unconscious in front of the house at around 02h00. The officers summoned Namdeb private hospital ambulance to take her to the hospital where she is currently admitted in a stable condition,’’ the police report stated.

Another attempted murder case was opened at Okongo police station in the Ohangwena region, where a man was arrested after he allegedly unlawfully and intentionally beat a male victim on the forehead with a hoe handle during an argument.

The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault. He bled heavily from the nose and mouth.

The incident happened at about 15h00 in Oshainghava village on Saturday. The victim was transferred from Okongo state hospital to Onandjokwe hospital in serious but critical condition.

At Ondando-Oniipa area in the Oshikoto region on Friday, the lifeless body of 77-year-old Kefas Shidute Hamakali, was found lying on the floor in his sleeping room by his family members.

According to his health passport, the deceased was suffering from high blood pressure and asthma. He last visited the hospital on 5 January 2023.

His actual cause of death is still to be verified.

The next of kin were informed and no foul play is suspected.
