KATIMA MULILO – A 51-year-old man travelled over 1 000 kilometres from Gobabis in Omaheke region to Katima Mulilo in Zambezi to shoot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself. According to a police report, Fidelus Herold Auchab arrived at Katima Mulilo on Tuesday morning at around 05h00. The two were reportedly in a strenuous relationship. 

The report further states that at around 22h30 the same day, Auchab committed the gruesome act of shooting his 32-year-old girlfriend Lizette Hoxobes with a CZ pistol 11 times, before proceeding to shoot himself. They were found dead in a locked room at a local business. Their next of kin have been informed, while police investigations continue.

Guardian arrested

Meanwhile, a 38-year-woman was arrested in Kavango East for allegedly inserting a mixture of toxins into the private parts of an 11-year-old girl who is in her care. The toxins were reportedly used to help treat the minor against wetting the bed. Police at Ndiyona said the guardian unlawfully and intentionally inserted the toxins, causing the victim serious injuries. 

The incident was reported to the police and the suspect was picked up by law enforcement officers at Shamvhura village where the incident allegedly happened on 21 May.  “A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, was opened against the woman,” said a police report. The suspect was due to appear before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court earlier this week and the minor is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
