RUNDU - The Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU) president Jason Emvula is still on suspension since 24 August 2022. 

Emvula is due for a hearing that will decide his fate as president. 

He is facing 19 charges, among them conflict of interest and corruption. 

The suspended president is yet to be summoned for a disciplinary hearing. 

In a letter from the NNFU to regional farmers’ unions and stakeholders, the union said the board of directors made a decision to suspend Emvula but did not indicate why. 

New Era understands that he may face another charge of abuse of power.

NNFU CEO Kuniberth Shamathe, who confirmed that Emvula was still on suspension, refused to comment on the matter, saying the acting president Amon Kapi, who is also the board chair, is the only one who can comment on the matter. 

However, Kapi’s number has been unreachable during several attempts to reach him on different days and his secretary said he was probably at his farm.

 “I think he should tell you the charges been presented to him. I’m not privy to comment on that and I am not the head that can be giving you responses,’’ said Christian Hango NNFU board director.

“You cannot call me about the suspension of our president. You must call the acting president not me,’’ said another NNFU board director Yvonne Howaes.

The suspension further prohibits Emvula from all activities of the NNFU or to act in any capacity of the union. 

“The NNFU distances itself from any conduct and, or behaviour of Mr Jason Emvula on behalf of NNFU and any further engagement and, or association with Mr Jason Emvula on behalf of NNFU will be done at your own risk,” read the letter from the NNFU to regional stakeholders.

Several attempts by this reporter to get comment from Emvula proved futile.
