NSSU, NamScore to continue equipping teachers

An initiative that was started last year by the Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU) in collaboration with NamScore Sports Consultancy to equip school teachers with basic and advanced sports training will continue next month.

NSSU and NamScore last year rolled out workshops in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, with the aim of providing professional sports education training to teachers. The workshops’ target was to fully equip teachers with basic knowledge and skills on how to run sports at schools, which also includes all necessary marketing skills and strategies on how teachers can secure sponsorship for their respective schools.

NSSU and NamScore Sports Consultancy last year successfully equipped teachers in five regions, namely Omaheke, Zambezi, Khomas, Hardap and //Kharas regions.

According to Peter Mawere, who is a representative of NamScore Sports Consultancy, they will continue with their initiative in April covering the remaining regions.

“We want to continue where we ended last year and finish off the remaining regions. The response that we got last year on this program was overwhelming and we are looking forward to continue equipping more teachers in Namibia,” Mawere said.

He added that this year’s program will include additional initiatives which will not only benefit those at school level but communities at large.

“In 2021 NamScore Sports Consultancy will introduce additional programmes and initiatives to the 2021 sports calendar; these programmes will target physical education at schools, sports administrators and the community at large,” said Mawere.

Mawere further said school teachers who will take part in this training will be taught the fundamentals of coaching, which will be facilitated by Zohair Ammar, an expert from Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).
