Omuthiya BMX Club calls on youngsters to join training camp

OMUTHIYA – Omuthiya BMX Club is calling on youngsters between the age of 8 and 16 to register for the club’s upcoming cycling training camp. The club plans to resume activities after having closed its doors in March last year following the Covid-19 outbreak.
Omuthiya BMX Club head coach Salomo Ndeshimona says registration will cost a once-off fee of N$10 and will be geared towards the repair of bicycles.

The training is offered by three mentors, with one being a holder of a Namibia Level 1 Cycling Coaching License and the others being holders of International Level 1 Licenses.

“Omuthiya BMX will attempt to open and register all youngsters who wants to partake in our training and learn how to cycle. We understand the impact of the pandemic and its negative effect on our sport but we value their active participation in such events and training as well.
We will, thus, ensure we stick to all basic Covid-19 health protocols, such as hand washing, screening of participants at all times, wearing of face masks, as well as social distancing,” he said.

Ndeshimona added that the club is committed to producing top young cyclists that will, in the near future, compete at both national and international levels.

“Our dream is to produce a national champion and an Olympian one day. In previous years, we had cyclists from Omuthiya who participated in competitions in Windhoek and performed very well, so we, therefore, want to build on that momentum so that sport can be inculcated in future generations.

Despite the lengthy Covid-19 induced break; we have not secured a container to store our bikes at the training venue yet, plus the idea of having a BMX track remains a pipeline dream. Thus, all Good Samaritans should look at us in those regards.
We are a non-profit making group and we rely on donor and assistance from time to time,” appealed Ndeshimona.
