Teen raped by gang

OMUTHIYA – Two male suspects were on Friday arrested in Oshikoto for gang-raping a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner at Oniipa.

The incident happened in broad daylight at Omadhiya village when the two suspects cornered the unsuspecting victim and took turns to rape her in the nearby bushes.

“It is alleged the victim was on her way from school and found the two guys standing in the road. One of them grabbed her as she walked past and dragged her into the bushes. The suspect called the friend to help hold the girl’s arms while he undressed her before sexually assaulting her,” said Chief Inspector Paulus Endjala.

When the first suspect was done, he switched to holding the girl’s hands, giving a chance to the friend to also rape the victim, added Endjala. The victim is a Grade 10 learner at Oshilulu Combined School.

The suspects are known and will appear in Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court today.

In Tsumeb, Endjala said, the police registered a case of attempted murder following a shooting incident involving two brothers.

“It is alleged the suspect, who’s the owner of the house, came home drunk and started to quarrel with his brother for unknown reasons. The suspect was armed with a pistol – and shortly after the argument, he fired multiple shots at his younger brother, inflicting serious injuries.”

He said eight spent cartridges were found at the scene. The suspect, a 51-year-old, has been arrested and will appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court today. The victim, Paulus Nghifikenwa (38), who is in a critical condition, has since been transferred to Oshakati State Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

“The pistol used is a 7.65mm Beretta with a serial number NR B9170W, licensed to the suspect. It was confiscated and booked as exhibit, police investigations continue,” said Endjala.
