Tjituka: Wholesale revamp of players needed...as Citizens face Tigers tomorrow

Debmarine Namibia Premiership struggling outfit Citizens FC head coach Gustav Tjituka has said the only thing that can revive the club’s fortunes on the pitch is a wholesale revamp of the playing personnel and crafting a new strategic path for the club.

Tjituka, himself a former Citizens defender back in the day, said it is becoming worrisome for the fans and the technical team that the players are just not punching above their weight as far as their league campaign is concerned.

“At the moment, things are not looking so good for us as we are finding the going tough. We have a squad that is dominated by inexperienced players and most of them don’t understand the level of competitiveness needed in the premiership. I think for us to turn the situation around at the club, we will have to spend big on quality players and also make sure we get a few guys with experience. We just need to provide a new path for the club, on and off the pitch,” said a dismayed Tjituka.

Citizens are currently sitting bottom of the log with a paltry two points from 14 league matches, and have conceded 35 goals, scored six and drew two of their 14 matches.

Although they are facing immense danger in the relegation zone, Tjituka is betting on tomorrow’s vital clash against fellow strugglers Tigers, whom they face at the SKW stadium in the capital.

Tigers is currently third from bottom with 13 points from 14 matches and will equally be out for a win tomorrow as they too are seeking to move out of the relegation zone.

“I mean they [Tigers] too are also struggling and I think we stand a good chance to collect maximum points. We just need to play much better and get those points against Tigers on Wednesday. We will get the maximum points,” said the retired Citizens veteran, who hopes tomorrow’s match could mark a much-needed turnaround.
